Helaman: Leading up to Christ's Coming



The Book of Helaman introduces us to some amazing characters, from the Gadianton robbers to Samuel the Lamanite. The book contains a great deal of political material, and introduces us to the Gadianton robbers, whose Mafia-like group conspires to overthrow the government. I found this to be very interesting and frightening at the same time, and chose to focus one lesson on conspiracy theories, and how we can separate the voice of warning from fear-mongering. As the coming of the Savior approaches, prophets are inspired to go among the people and warn them. One of the most courageous and inspiring of these is Samuel the Lamanite. There was something about Samuel that made me think about teenagers and how we work with them; I think he offers us some insights there as we work with these difficult yet inspiring young people.
